Summer Events at The Valiant Soldier Museum

Join us at The Valiant Soldier Museum for exciting summer events, including a Wine Bar and a 60s Evening. Enjoy our exhibitions, coffee mornings, and consider volunteering with us.

Saturday 26th July - Wine Bar: Come and enjoy a glass of wine, Pimms, beer, or cider at the Valiant Wine Bar, open from midday until 4 o'clock. We're hosting a raffle with lots of lovely prizes. On the same day, at the 'Water Day' held at the Millennium Green, the Valiant Soldier will showcase a mini-exhibition on the 19th-century battle for clean water and proper sewage. The Dart was one of the dirtiest rivers then, with debates over cost, health, and amenities. Does anyone have an old wooden toilet seat we can use for an activity?

Saturday 30th August – 60s Evening: Join us for a 1960s-themed event with the bar open from 6-10 pm. We'll be offering delicious cocktails like Mai Tai, Tom Collins, and Gimlet. The Valiant closed as a pub in the 60s, making this 65th-anniversary celebration special. Flared jeans, mini-skirts, colourful denim, or daisy flower prints are the order of the day.

Buckfastleigh in the Roaring 20s: The Valiant is part of 'A festival of Devon in the 1920s' with various events taking place across Devon until October. Our exhibition is part of this, so pay us a visit and discover what living in Buckfastleigh was like in the 1920s.

Volunteering Opportunities: Volunteering benefits both individuals and communities. It allows you to develop new skills, gain experience, and find purpose while meeting people from different backgrounds. Volunteering is linked to improved mental health by reducing stress and enhancing well-being. If you have a few hours to spare and think you'd enjoy being part of our lovely team, pop in for a chat or email us: info@valiantsoldier.org.uk for more information.

The Garden: Our garden is thriving, but we need help with maintenance. If you're interested, email us for the dates we'll meet in the garden. Bring a picnic and enjoy the day with fellow gardening enthusiasts.

By now, you know how important our little museum is, and no doubt you've paid us a visit. If not, why not? It's free entry for those living in the TQ11 area.

Opening Times: We are open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 3.30pm (last entry at 3pm) until the end of October. There will be additional openings on Sundays from the end of July through August and on Bank Holidays. Bring the children, do the quiz, and see how many woolly sheep they can find hidden around the museum.

Support Us: You could win £25,000! Teignbridge's lottery only costs £1 for six numbers, with 50p from every ticket supporting the Valiant Soldier. You'll find the link on the Teignbridge Lottery for Communities. Or you can support us by donating on our 'Go Fund Me' page on Facebook: https://gofund.me/f819a57a. Our buildings are continually in need of maintenance, and any donations are greatly appreciated.

Sales: Our new Visitor Centre now has local crafts on sale, featuring beautiful jewellery, ceramics, and wooden items. We also have greetings cards, local maps, games, pre-read books, and delicious Salcombe ice cream.

Room Hire: If you'd like to hire a room, please drop us an email: info@valiantsoldier.org.uk or check out our website: valiantsoldier.org.uk.

Coffee Mornings: Coffee mornings continue on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm, run by the friendly Methodist group. Everyone is welcome.

We look forward to welcoming you to our unique museum in the summer months.
